You are a typical artist and your feelings and perspective about your work are all normal. What I have done since being laid off from work is that I have joined a weekly artist's group. I find mixing with my peers and sharing work and tips has been just exhilirating! I hear all the same comments about selling my work, but it is easier said than done. They do not know all that is entailed in doing that. But I have begun the process, taking baby steps and started to present my work publicly. The art group has helped trememdously in teaching me how one does establish themselves and their work.

You're not the only one who over-erases. My mother does that too. Are you like her, though? Do you press the backspace button once per letter? "Tap tap tap tap...tap." As opposed to,"Taaaaaaaaaap."

those "why don't you DO something with that?" comments can be really frusterating. most people don't see how hard it is to make a living off of your art. what you have is a rare gift, but that doesn't make it easy to market, you know? and greg, you couldn't sound pompous if you tried, sweetie. no worries.

I think that whole bit about artists being super-critical is pretty factual. Whenever I do something I refuse to take compliments just because I've already criticized the work myself, and it would seem like a lie coming from another person no matter what (unless, of course, the work is actually good in my own eyes, but it's rare when that happens). And people don't get that you just can't "go out there" and sell artwork, although you actually have a better chance than me just because you've already made a name for yourself. I, on the other hand, am I struggling high school student and it'd be completely out of the question to be a professional artist. Ah well. You're stuff is rather cool just because it's different from most of everything that's out there. Plus, it has a Helluva lot of character. Which is always good.

Alli, damn that made me feel good to read, thank you. You have just as good a chance as I do, some of the things that I've seen high school kids do blows me away. But the thing you have to remember is, NEVER compare how lame you are to how awesome someone else is. There will always be someone better than you, and you will always be better than someone else. And thats liiiiiiife......thats what they saaaaaaaaay!
